I think that's the case, but then again it's a little confrontational to them go ahead and declare that no British person understands that fields are manmade, so I think a little ribbing in return isn't so bad.

The scale of environmental impact on the environment by humans in the British Isles is interesting, especially how much of it goes back centuries. Most of rural England and Wales is fields, hedgerows, young woodland, pastures, etc. And it's mostly been that way since the Normans.

In all seriousness though I actually do support widespread afforestation, but even then it's not a substitute for old growth forest. The England of the Celts is just never coming back.

how long does it take for a forest to become an old growth forest? is it fully 12,000 years or so? if so yeah it'll never come back. at least not while we're the dominant species on the planet
