The book is about applying theory to many different kinds of programming languages, so it's not anchored in any specific language.

Its approach reminded me of the Alice book (foundations of databases) which used many variants of Datalog with subtle differences. Harper’s book also uses a “base language”.

The cover cries out for an Alice equivalent. I suggest Tom Sawyer, known for his wit, persuasion, and language mastery.
