I've been able to get a fair few hazelnuts this year by picking them when they're still green and ripening at home in a paper bag (the squirrels get them otherwise).
And now I am flashing back to Marc Simontβs picture book, The Lovely Summer, about the battle between some summer people and the rabbits who simply looove the vegetable garden the people plant.
Have had two blueberry bushes going on 6 years now. Never eaten a single blueberry. See it as my contribution to the local gentry of squirrels and birds.
Wish it was the kindness of my heart, but tried netting, etc. Nothing works. Now it is just resignation and good humor (still fertilize, etc. though as a sap).
