Having lots of refs or detailed descriptions for what you're looking for (including during feedback)! I find it easier when I can understand what the vision is ^^

i produce and write original music so most of what i say will be related to that!

- references with clear similarity and/or good explanation of why ref is there (three refs is the sweet spot for me!)
- a deadline to finish by from the get go
- singers vocal range/s and a sample of their voice

From a music prod side:
Having a clear vision of the song and vibe they want to convey with it.
If they don't give enough info, I throw a questionnaire at them which covers all the q's I'd have (song choice, genre/references, key, t/t, guides needed (?), no. vocalists, deadline, commercial use etc.)

As a mixer, an organized track and making sure everything recorded good already. Nothing beats mixing someone who sings well and have everything organized. No distraction just mixing listening to beautiful voices.

As a producer, I'm still figuring out the best way to communicate so nothing on that

for me i take "quantity of work" details upfront for planning and rates - timeframe, # of vocalists, song, type of work (with or without tt)

personally, timeframe/dl is a big one because im typically booking in advance and need to make sure i can complete it within expectations

I think having a clear reference of the character you want to comission and what you'd like the pose to be etc would help

but usually Im more of the do as I go and edit as I go, so Ill always ask for feedbacks with clients to get their confirmation before I proceed

definitely organized, clear references (docs, moodboards, slides…)! I personally love having clients give me plenty of details for their comm so we end up talking a lot…😭
If there’s any element they particularly like or smth they wanna include, it’s helpful to point that out too imo! :DDD

i like it when clients gather visual references for me while also still allowing me to have creative freedom!!!! bonus points if references are added into neat and organised files
