Where I come from, these were traditionally collected and dried for using as tinder when making a fire. And also as a cushion for seamstresses pins and needles! Never seen this use before, quite interesting!

the fruiting bodies are between 3–30 centimetres (1–12 inches) wide and 5–50 cm (2–19+1⁄2 in) long, but can become even bigger and my dream is to find one of those big ones so I can sit on it 🙏

the common names comes from the ability to etch drawings by scratching them on the white underside, revealing the brown tissue underneath, that stays visable and become permanent when the fungus is dry
