As a disabled person who has no car, in a city with lousy public transportation, the fact that Target ships basic household items & stable groceries has been a lifeline for me. Haven't yet figured out how I'm going to replace them as a resource. I'm so disappointed in their choice.
Yeah, it’s definitely easier to do when you have other alternatives for replacement! We’ve always been Costco shoppers though, so we’ve always gotten the bulk of our necessities there. Target was more discretionary spending.
After having the baby, we’d gotten into the habit of going to Target 1-3x a week. It was a reliable way to kill a wake window and entertain him. We still buy a few things from there which we can’t find anywhere else easily, but I just do a pickup or go in and out quickly and not buy anything else.
I actually feel pretty free, having kicked this habit. I’ve been ambivalent on Target for a while, given how white their book shelves have gotten since booktok took over (do they even have the Diverse Book Club anymore? I think they axed it a while ago. It used to at least diversify their shelves).
We only go for the baby’s diapers (because they’re cheapest there) and certain good and gather snacks that he randomly loves. It’s a straight shot to baby stuff and then back out. I loooove it.
