I’d rather be prepared for the bad things that inevitably happen than cross my fingers and put my faith in “positive thought”. In other words, I’d rather have a rainy day fund and not need it, than need one and not have it.

There are countless things beyond my, or anyone else’s control. A tree could fall on my house. I could get mauled by a dog. I could get cancer. Shit tends to happen. When things are going good that’s great. But I never take anything for granted. Life can change for the worse in the blink of an eye.

I’m in Washington state. It rains nine months out of the year. I always assume that it’s going to rain unless it’s summer. I don’t even bother with a raincoat. I just get wet. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My thought is that in times like this, the only path we can afford is to be optimistic. Pessimism is a luxury we don't need right now. I hate toxic positivity too. But saying that as a country, we can come through this is *not* toxic positivity.

I just like to be as prepared for the worst case scenario as possible. I know way too many people who feel that everything will always work out. And when they get caught flat footed by life they always wanna ask me for help. You know, because my pessimistic ass is prepared for the worst.
