As I understand it, there’s an inverse relationship between being shatterproof and being scratch proof. A plastic screen (like the Nintendo Switch) is nearly impossible to crack, but scratches super easy.

Last phone I know of to go plastic was the Droid Turbo in 2015

Of course, the wizards at Corning keep on claiming newer versions of Gorilla Glass are more shatterproof (and they don’t seem to be any more scratch-prone), so clearly there’s a lot more to physics than can be conveyed in 280 characters.

ehhhhhgg. on the one hand, my phone fell a couple of feet; on the other, it was onto an extremely hard concrete floor. i guess i should've been more of a pessimist and bought a cheap case.

I've been Pixel-only for awhile because they're effectively a stock Android phone with Google sugar(even before my security nerd customizations).
Case-wise, Spigen now and forever. I've had them take falls onto city streets with just a small scratch.

I personally never use a phone without a case or screen protector and doing so has only led me to pay $5 for new screen protectors every once in a blue moon and $10-20 for a new case every few years due to degradation from daily use

And the nice part is a lot of cases you see on Amazon come packaged with at least 2 screen protectors as well so you'll have an extra lying around

I put my phone down in the con green room to attend to the snack table. Bill Shatner sidles over, snatches the handset, and swipes a finger across the still-unlocked screen to do a jokepost.
