The 48 House Democrats who voted alongside all 216 Republicans to enable the detention of undocumented immigrants who are arrested (*not necessarily convicted*) for things like shoplifting:

7 from CA too. Is it possible they are getting pressure from those they represent that undocumented crime (and maybe mass migration in general) is a significant issue for them?
If you have someone in detention and they are here illegally, they should be deported. This does not seem controversial. Enacting or advocating for any other policy is the fastpath to losing elections.
So if a person comes here as a child, grows up in this country, and then is arrested on suspicion of shoplifting they should automatically be deported?
Depending on exact circumstances, no. However, because you can find problems with it on a rare basis does not mean that it is good politics to not pass this bill. I find portions of the bill authorizing states to sue the federal government to be much more problematic.
1) according to MAGA types, every single one of those people has ALREADY committed a crime simply by being here.
2)There are millions of POTENTIAL victims of this policy. Whether they commit a crime or not, merely being detained for one on whatever pretext is a potential deportation.
I love how during the first Trump term liberals, would sneer at the Republicans in Congress for being afraid of their own Trump-supporting voters. Liberals kept patting themselves on the back for having their own more cordial dynamic with the Democrats in Congress. Well look where that's gotten you.
Ah I see the democrats favorite genocide pusher and 2024 campaign surrogate, Richie Torres is doing his best to shred any last hope that the opposition party will actually oppose anything.
Sure glad a bunch of progressive people volunteered their time ballot curing to get @derektranca45.bsky.social into the House so he could do this trash
i can barely see that but the california people are likely all DINOS. the asians in orange county are overwhelmingly republican. gray is cental cal i think and he's also in red districts. he voted for things i was happy about but they were opposite to dem.
"Representative Dave Min was elected in 2024 to represent California’s 47th Congressional District in the heart of Orange County, which includes the cities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Seal Beach, as well as parts of Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods."
"Representative Mike Levin is proud to represent California's 49th Congressional District, which includes North County San Diego and South Orange County."
Really sorry to see Brendan Boyle on this list. He was my congressman before redistricting and I thought he was a righteous and hard-working guy. Now he represents the most Republican district in Philly, and I guess he's feeling that pressure.
