Just slap the word 'controversial' on something which is actually humane and kind (anti-bloodsports legislation often gets this even though 85%support it) and it alienates people. Like calling support for human rights 'political'
you should've seen the debate in germany when it was screened on berlinale last year, the *official film festival website* introduced it as antisemitic because they didn't show oct 7th...
You know, as a German-American Jew obviously get why they are hyper sensitive to anti-Semitism because history. But seeing how this fear manifests into xeonophobia, Islamophobia and being completely unwilling to accept that anyone could be a victim of similar atrocities besides Jewish people hurts.
this! i don't understand how you can limit "never again" to only jewish ppl apparently and don't make it "for anyone". this really prevents the broader german society to have empathy with especially arabic/ middle eastern people imo.

Guarantee you 99% of the people angry about this pick didn't even know this film existed before tonight.
The 1948 letter was about how the establishment of an Israeli State that excluded and was antagonistic to Palestinians might be a bad idea.
