Or, Will Ferrell broke off their partnership because he was going around the bend. Driven mad by the toxic brew of ego and too much screen time!

Apparently the cause was that Farrel really wanted the role of Jerry Buss and mckay may have promised it to him before he gave it John C. Riley. I'd say spending too little time with Farrel and too much time with David Sirota is what did him in.
