We have a faculty break room/kitchen adjacent to our offices and got shot down when we requested salt, pepper, and basic condiments because it would be "a form of compensation."

Sounds like the (national) UK museum my wife works in. They take it in turns to bring milk in. Need to drive to a meeting offsite? You can't claim mileage in your car, you need to drive to the museum and use the fleet car.
I am not. Our Administrative Director went out and bought a bunch of salt and pepper packs along with those little ketchup packets with his own money and put them in a drawer for communal use. He is a hero.
just like all the other schoolteachers bringing food to share 🤦🏼♀️. institutions have become dinosaurs set on their own flourishing to the detriment of all the humans that comprise them
We had this conversation too; I said, ok, I won't buy any for my own office, but what about the classroom? They said no and suggested we contact the custodial staff about accessing their paper towel supply.
