Like, maybe shorter in some cases, maybe longer in others. Depends on whether it's more angsty or more smutty for me.

For me personally it depends on my mood. *Usually* it falls under watching them choke for about a minute or two before passing out tho.

…but sometimes a long waterlog sesh can hit different 🫣💦

In a "realistic" sense, about 2½-3½ minutes is long enough for drown time. In a fantastical sense its 5-7 minutes. I feel if drowning was a factor, it can get too ridiculous if a character lasted longer than human limitations, unless it was written so or simply neglected to enjoy the spectacle.

I do love a good long waterlogging. I love when they're either lazily trying to get out of whatever situation they're in or they're past the point of panic and just wanna nap. Bonus points if they find themselves unexpectedly horny from their flooded lungs

It takes my character a decent bit to actually pass out. A good minute or two of taking on water, but they are so panicked and non buoyant that they won't be able to save themselves by that point. So they are basically stuck struggling until the clock out😵

i don't get the point if they just pass out immediately tbh. having them choke and thrash around for awhile is the climax of the whole thing and not having that just feels unsatisfying. it's like spending a whole story building up how tough and strong the BBEG is, and then they just die in one punch

the harder they fight it the better it is

especially if they take on water and then keep trying to hold it anyways, that desperate few seconds of agonizing fight-or-flight is ENTHRALLING
