Not only your friends but also other lifeforms, and they did not cause this issue. So other lifeforms had to endure the damage we caused, not only now while the fire rages but also for the decades we have been consuming natural resources. In this sense, we had it coming,however harsh it might sound.

I studied environmental sciences and my partner works doing research on how climate change affects plants in the Arctic, so this is something we talk about fairly often. It's frustrating and terrifying unlike anything else. I feel like we failed as a society and now the world is paying the price.

Hate it as well. Reminded of a graph (from nyt). There hasn't been meaningful progress/change for 3 decades because the politician/people in power hasn't changed in a meaningful manner, they continue to be career politicians who will prioritize career (& money (esp corporate)) > all else.

With 2020 election there was the talk about how old both of the two major party candidates were and how it was two septuagenarian(70+) geriatric white men running. Reminded of Dianne Feinstein (died in office 2023 at age 90) and people that are should retire still sticking around in power.
