THE BLACK HOLE (1979) ushered in Disney's brilliant Dark Phase with its visions of heaven and hell, as well as this piece of suggested gory violence as robot Maximilian kills Anthony Perkins, who sells it all beautifully (his strangulated death gargle is horrible).

"Protect me from Maximillian!"...
Still sends chills up my spine.
"No way, it's Alex from The Black Hole!"
Crew member unmasked, Maximillian blades, Bob sacrificing himself, legendarily abstract ending.
Creepy, scary, upsetting and downright weird. All in a Disney movie?!
It's also aged better than a lot of its contemporary sci fi movies.
And that death scene is one of the best.
I have a vague memory of a big display in Debenhams (maybe?) in Birmingham - enclosed area with scenes from the film playing on the walls & lots of merchandise on sale. Anyone else remember this?

“Great. How do we do that”
“Start with an overture!”
And there is still the Very Disney style robot - Old Bob, I think - that throws the tone even further.
