Even oiling them semi-regularly? I'm on year 3 of very regularly worn slip-on Chelsea Doc Martins and haven't so much as a single crack. (I wear these puppies for 10+ hrs at a time)
Oh no! Those are pretty thick too. I wonder how Ive avoided that so far? My guess would be the stationary-ish aspect of my standing-all-day job. I get several miles in daily, but much of it is around the same spot.
Brief research online says this is apparently a not overly uncommon problem with their stacked sole design. The rubber is just fused with heat and sometimes they don't join completely. Tried a few of the common fixes to no avail. I may try another pair again because I felt good in them.
Recent convert to Doc Martens and was warned it would take a long time to break them in. Was shocked at how comfortable my first pair has been. Wore them all day at work and then went to a club after. No sores or blisters. Guess this specific pair is an exception but I love them!
You should give Solovair a try next time Andy. They’re everything Docs used to be, and made by the company that used to manufacture the DM soles and put the finished product together, all the best.
I got a blue oil rubbed or whatever they call it pair and those are the best looking boots of that type made. They get light duty from me, but I love wearing them
I know the feeling. I've had these DM boots for the past week and they're still rubbing against the backs of my heels. Can't wait for them to heal so I stop walking like a weirdo to minimise the pain.
I often swear that one pair of the most comfortable shoes I ever owned were a fancy pair of leather dress shoes! I could walk all day in them without issues.
I have a pair of their leather Docs shoes. They've got the same rubber sole and yellow stitching but is an under the ankle dress shoe. Now that they are broken in they are killer and they will last me for the rest of my life. Part of me just wants to replace all of my shoes with Docs. 😆
I know, unsolicited advice after the fact. But I would recommend for your next pair or even an additional pair to go first with Solovairs and then Made in England Docs.
