Punching Nazis has become a running joke, but I think that's the only thing that is going to work this time because fascists have been coddled since Reconstruction. They don't take warnings or even threats seriously. Only promises.

I still maintain that punching Nazis is not the right solution. They want to be attacked so they can play the victim and justify violence in return.

Instead, I advocate for heavy artillery. It has a proven track record.

This is unpopular opinion territory, but we also have to differentiate between fascists and cowards. We all know the old tale about how one Nazi sitting at a table makes it a Nazi table. Yes, everyone who stays at the table is a Nazi. But the person who runs from the table in fear isn't.

Men like Vance convince the fearful that it's safer to stay quiet. That you will be labeled a Nazi anyway if you give up the table, so you might as well stay seated. It's a lie, but people fall for it and that's how they swell their numbers.

That's where we have to intervene. We have to convince fearful people that it is WAY more dangerous to stay at the table because we're about to light that **** on fire. And we have to convince them that they are welcome to come back and fight alongside us later when they feel safe.

The whole point is getting them away from the table. When you say nothing in the face of bigotry instead of walking out? You are staying at the table! And a LOT of people are staying at the table when there is ZERO risk in getting up. The risk is in fighting (a worthwhile risk) or remaining seated.

At this point, I’m starting to feel a bit bitter and angry about “punching nazis”, because almost none of the people who loved to tweet about it ever actually *did* it, and now it’s too late for that to work as a means of scaring them back into the shadows. They’re normalized and in power.

I dunno. I feel like if one tweets “punch nazis” all the time, but every time they see one in real life, they just hide or avoid them or quietly seethe, that person should reassess themselves a bit. It’s like the people who post “be gay do crimes” and then yell at trans women for shoplifting. :P

The most famously punched one, Richard Spencer, has surprisingly backed away from overtly nazi shit and has been critical of the salutes lately (lmao).

Punching nazis and making it into memes that make them look pathetic might be a better method of deradicalization than talking to them.
