how I feel when I try to write a story with serious themes

As a writer, Darkplace speaks to me more than any other work of fiction.

I know writers who use subtext, and they’re cowards.

Whenever I'm describing my protagonists' appearances "I was muscular and compact, like corned beef" flows through my mind at one point or another.

For me, it's the unparalleled "he glided into her mossy cleft"

"They tried all the positions: On Top, Doggy, and Normal."

"The pain shot through her like a big bullet."

"...Wouldn't you have always read exactly as many books as you'd have written?"

Read my own books? That's what editors are for.

Me just before someone is confused by or entirely missed the metaphor that I thought was so unsubtle that an artillery strike would go unnoticed.
