Liberals decrying hungry children and people going without healthcare while spending tens of thousands of dollars on cancer treatment for their 18 year old dog is something I think needs to change about our party.

Make this make sense. People can walk and chew gum at the same time. They can give thousands of dollars OF THEIR MONEY toward feeding hungry children AND healing their pets.
Another way of phrasing it, America has gone overboard with the pet craze to the point they garner more resources, and compassion, than human beings, and there is wisdom in the notion of “everything in moderation”.
That is an interesting point. Pets have for many become like "family". But is there an inverse relationship between empathy for pets and empathy for humans? I don't know. But if we live in a free country, then we have a right to make good or bad decisions without fear of government interference.
And since it’s a free country I’ll point out how crazy this country has become with pets and how their negative effects are completely ignored. People love guns too, are they improving society? I think breeding animals to sell to people to fill emotional voids that used to be met by people is…bad.
This comment was prompted by someone posting their plan to force homeless people to care for stray pets, to “earn” their daily food. But not all homeless people are trustworthy enough to work with stray pets so we’d have to methodically screen them to see if they are able to do it. It’s sick.
I generally think the for-profit breeding of excessive numbers of pets (that are expensive to humanely care for) to sell to people to fill an emotional void that used to filled with human beings is a net negative for the health of society. It’s too unpopular for anyone to say but I’ll say it.
