Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro, etc can all be made or unmade by college grads. Only celebrity/non-political charisma is powerful enough to break the hammer lock that Mayor Pete-type college grads have on the party at the national level.

On the plus side, it’s not clear the GOP will be able to hold its 2024 coalition together without Trump. 2028 is going to a little bit of a reshuffle of the coalitions.
I think we have to be cautious about overreading voting trends when the dominant presence who was being judged was the 81 year old Biden.
IMO, it was his almost anti-charisma as president that caused these trends. College grads could accept it and hold the line, but others were skeptical.
I’m actually assuming the opposite — I don’t think college-educated Dems would like the Stephen A thing, but they could be overwhelmed by non-college voters.
the head to head competition won’t look like this though. there aren’t any more 3+ decade brands built on being el hefe with the golden tower, firing everyone and grabbing pussy. are they going to believe “only vance can fix”?? of course not
The Ds of my youth promoted the ideals of fairness and equality. The far left pulled it to 1984 - all are equal, but some (for perhaps a myriad of valid reasons) are more equal than others.
