Haven't been on there in quite some time. The content and community really seemed to go downhill after 2020.

It comes from the top. PG is decidedly creepy with many of his views. Money gives you the luxury of being honest about who you are. The downside being that some folks are quite ugly inside.

Haven't followed YCombinator nor PG that much but back in its heyday I used to love going to hackernews for the think pieces, tech deep dives and chit chat but now a lot of the content (with a few wonderful exceptions) seems like superficial pablum and consumed by r/iamverysmarts

Back then PG was more thoughtful and didn't have as many hot takes. The problem with many of these folks is that they eventually have a bad take and instead of reflecting and improving based on the reaction, they double down. Everything seems to go downhill after that. Rowling also comes to mind.
