like don’t get me wrong: sorin was definitely wrong first; this is an indisputable fact. I just think it’s crazy people try to defend either of their actions. THE WHOLE POINT WAS THAT PLANESWALKERS COULD RUIN COUNTLESS LIVES WITHOUT A THOUGHT, AND THAT THAT IS BAD-
What did Sorin do besides shut off Zendikar to Innistrad communication and be kind of a dick when Nahiri showed up? I have my own personal beef with Nahiri, though I suspect I've only heard the story through biased perspective lol
well the idea is that Sorin was the first planeswalker Nahiri ever met, and though we don’t know most of the details about their relationship, we DO know he was her teacher, and they secretly viewed each other as a father and a daughter. Sorin (a victim of generation trauma and abuse)-
Wasn’t a particularly good mentor or parent, and he likely perpetuated that cycle of trauma onto her.
At the Helvault, despite having promised Nahiri he would help her, Sorin instead berated and dismissed Nahiri without explanation (an explanation Nahiri almost certainly would’ve understood.) -
And though I think there’s a lot to dissect about their relationship and to consider with Sorin and his own horrific trauma, there is absolutely no excuse for the way he treated her, or him dealing her in the Helvault. He could’ve deescalated the situation easily and instead made it much much worse.
Back in the day, I used to joke that it's funny that two of the most powerful Planeswalkers in the multiverse were (wo)manbabies who simply aren't capable of using their words.
