My political coming of age was Nixon/Watergate. For me the GOP has always been a trash party. There are no good Republicans, not on the national level at least. Trying to make a case that America needs a Republican Party is absurd. America needs more racism? Misogyny? Toxic Christianity? Nope.

I do agree that I think there will be a personality vacuum once Trump leaves, but I think he absolutely capitalized on a large, widespread inequality of people and their representation. I think there will be someone there to pick up where he leaves off. Trump is charismatic to his base, that’s all.

The followers of Trump say he fights for them, he believes in them, and he does everything for them. I believe them when they say it. I just think they either lie to themselves or explain it away when the reality conflicts with their interpretation of it.
