6. Metal Gear Solid.
I never expected this game to hook me. I was wrong. I had an amazing time for 99% of the game, the story is incredible, the game holds up super well for being the first of its kind, and while I have my issues with the gameplay, I respect and appreciate MGS 1 so much.

I tried this on a whim after it came to NSO, and what was meant to be a simple 10-15 minute diversion turned into an addiction spanning multiple days. I would just put on a podcast or video essay and zone out for hours clearing puzzle after puzzle. Absolute banger of a game.
I tried this after finishing the GB title, and while I personally think the simplicity and larger visuals of the Game Boy outing lead to me preferring it to Super, this is still a Picross game, and it's still a ton of fun if you enjoy Picross, which I do. Good game.
Am I playing into my own gimmick? Yes I am, and this game serves as a great game to kill time while I listen to videos/podcasts. Only now I get to point at the screen and go "Hey I know that!". Great game for SEGA weirdos like me, I'm having fun.
I got this game digitally on Switch after playing Pro Skater 2, and it's exactly what I wanted. I love being able to hop into a level, go for a high score or find secrets. The controls are great, the levels are fun, this is more of what I enjoyed from 2, all portably!
I decided to give this game a more serious try while doing some research for a potential future project, and it's a fine game but I have almost nothing to say about it. It's about as barebones as a run and gun arcade game can get. A fun little distraction, but not much else.
This was a neat side story. I enjoyed the extra character moments, the music was phenomenal, and I think repurposing unused content from the base game is cool. However, it's never really more than just a bonus, and it's nowhere near the base games level.
