why has the attitude of "you dont need to be efficient/competitive to enjoy video games" turned into "if you find joy in competing or being efficient you are personally responsible for me not enjoying video games and you suck"

Idk for online games, I find the beginning of new games fun but people starts to optimize the fun out of multiplayer games way too fast. Meta can be fun but I wanna run a variety of stuff. There is such a thing as too efficient to me. I’m not sure if I’m the type of person you’re talking about?
i feel like thats more the fault of bad matchmaking, not the people who want to play optimally. though i guess in something like a co-op game it could be annoying. either way i was mostly talking about the people who get weirdly toxic over it.
Ah gotcha, I just don’t play the games if I don’t enjoy the community. It’s the entire reason why I don’t play league or dota 2 lol. I’m mostly pulling from black ops 6 which is what I’ve been playing where I’m in sbmm hell where I’m good enough to play with sweats but I don’t enjoy it.
I think, for a lot of things, people perceive the barrier to entry for things differently. I think most things are in fact easier than people think, and the barrier is either gatekeeping (deliberate or not) or just a lack of knowledge about what to even know to improve. Practice is a skill in itself
What bothers me the most about this is when the competitive side has a very clear separation from the casual side, yet STILL people need to go into it then complain about things they know nothing about
Long answer: A general new gamedesign philosophy of making everyone engage with a competitive scene with glaring gaps of not just skill level but also time (and money) investment, mostly seen in mobile games but also emulated into other gaming platforms due to its success.
really dislike it too when it's "have you tried competing or being efficient in the *right* video games, or in the *right* way?" i feel like this has happened a few times simply with the idea of combo vids
Broad license taking, methinks. Scrubquotes wax and wane regularly based on how mockable their position is perceived to be.
The last iteration was the big cry people were having over COD Skill based matchmaking. The solution does always seem to let them punch themselves out and quit over it.

Too bad I cannot reach them.
Therefore they are sour and despicable!
Yeah. It's not fair.
But it has a lot to do with it
ppl just like to use this as an excuse to hate people that don't like what they like
because, it turns out, those shitty people you described exist EVERYWHERE!
