I'm a big fan of doing a shit ton of work at once to take a nice week long break whenever I can. Idk how long you've been at it, but I've been doing this full time for just 3 years and I absolutely started to feel like it was a drag. I highly recommend days off where you do absolutely NOTHING.
If you give people a heads up that you'll be taking a break and give them a general time frame and come back after that you won't have lost any followers or patreons, honestly.
instead of drawing you could do writing pieces, or maybe you can do monthly patreon art classes where you guide people in drawing? That way it lowers the amount you have to draw each month...
Theres gotta be other forms of content out there that people would pay for on patreon
That is the worst tbh. When something you enjoy becomes a neccesity, and you don't enjoy it anymore.
I'm sure your patrons will understand if you take a break over the holidays.
Doing art to survive definitely burns you out, and your enjoyment. Hopefully you can get a break and enjoy it again after
I actually have a friend that has a doctor dad. He's 28 and still lives with them. He gets everything he wants, but he literally has 0 self reliance. He has enough money to move out any time; he just doesn't & still answers to his mom.
You don't want that life. But, I hope you find a healthy balance
im curious to know why your therapist would suggest against drawing but i assume it’s not my business :( i hope you can find joy in it again because as someone who goes to therapy drawing is like the one consistent thing i have. you really inspire me frap im sending good vibes <3
she doesnt think its healthy to be drawing as a job constantly while having no time to draw personal stuff. So she wants me to take a month off to stop doing art for work
In photography, it’s suggested that ten percent of your time should be spent doing what you want to do. The idea is you can put that work in your portfolio and maybe get more work you like doing. 😊
ah i see. work life balance is really really hard to achieve especially as an artist trying to make a living. i hope you are able to rest easy knowing that if you did choose to take a break your supporters will still be here when you return <3
God that last part hits me like a rock. I feel that same thing.
If there was a way to support you elsewhere that'd provide you income between drawing, I'd do it! Or maybe you could do some surge of things to earn donos to put exclusively toward a break? I hope you find a balance.

If it means anything to you, your art always puts a smile on my face and inspires me a lot, too

just a blind suggestion, but it might be worth trying.
wont you be able to take a break even between christmas and new year's?

No Mr. Therapist, I'm addicted to paying rent and not starving. 🐱
It sucks, but for lack of available better options, folks like that are left with little choice but to endure.
