Republicans also did not ask Patel to explain documented whistleblower claims that he secretly pushed political firings of FBI officials. Those claims, which Patel called "secondhand gossip" but didn't deny, suggest he committed perjury. Because Patel filed his financial disclosure after his public hearing, evidently with Grassley's approval, senators didn't get to ask him about his various shady foreign payments. And Grassley shut down Dem efforts to make Patel respond to further questions about that, or Patel's apparent perjury.
