40 year birder. I know the background. I also have watched with alarm and heartbreak as birds diminish everywhere and I think conservation efforts and education should be the priority.
Agree with you on the diminishing as I have worked on avian conservation as an amateur and a professional for about the same time. I think birders and other naturalists can walk and chew gum at the same time.
About six years into birding, I got involved with raptor rehabilitation & education, housed raptors & did that for 20 years. It was probably one of the most rewarding things & also one of the most painful things Iβve ever done in my life. Walk & chew gum - sure hope so! π
