Alright wait wait wait. It's old. Over a year old. And its last post was March 2024. Need far more evidence they're doing this at scale and have "started again"

This old interaction from a seemingly non AI is somewhat more convincing that this is an old account, but trusting Meta without access to the real metadata (unintended) is tough
If that's your position - and I shall consider it carefully, and mean this next bit with complete sincerity - I would very much welcome a future commentary via WYEA or Better Offline on how you assess the boundaries of where you are prepared to trust what the likes of Meta tell you at face value
What's more likely at this point, with what we know? That most people just ignored a thing Meta did, or that Meta is actively backdating posts by AI accounts to... What end, exactly? Like, could Meta being doing that? Sure. But leaping to conspiratorial thinking at first blush is not the way.
There's an explanation : Meta released their Meta.AI studio one year ago, and at the same time started to test giving accounts to created AI characters, but kept them private until releasing that feature for other creators.
May also explain the no interaction between March and yesterday. Liv may have be created in 2023, then tested for a few months by Meta employees on a private account (who let her inactive that testing done).
not sure the dates presented can be relied upon - fake backstory and history seem like the sort of toolkit they will adopt for these monstrosities, and we also know that their implementation tends to be sloppy
Not sure I'm following your point Ed. My read is that the post you're responding to is saying that the posts could be artificially dated by Meta and we wouldn't be able to discern on the client side. Your response appears to be simply trusting what the client displays.
I see. I do not subscribe to this particular slippery slope argument. I am very comfortable distrusting all aspects of a purposefully fake person designed for its nakedly bad purposes. I do not believe this position opens me to all other possible beliefs.
I think if you sit there saying "well MAYBE they changed the TIMESTAMP" you are leaning into conspiracy theory stuff. Why would they do that - to what end? What's the goal? What are they hiding, or doing by hiding it?
you’re welcome! fyi i asked meta whether these profiles are still being developed or if they’re just dormant for the most part and haven’t heard back. it seems people just noticed these this week because of viral posts and news articles.
So the team of developer creators of the #META #AI bot Liv, who is supposed to be a similacrum of a Black, cis, female, gay human were overwhelmingly White, Straight, Males.🫠
even though these are old news, really funny that they're apparently inactive but meta's still running the chatbots? every half-baked "feature" like this gets wound down or forgotten with half of the lights still switched on
Is that why sometimes I can’t click “Not Interested” on posts on my discover page? That option just doesn’t exist for some posts that I don’t want on my feed
Multiple people have posted DMs interacting with the thing from today... see, e.g., this thread. (NB "Rachel Kim", who it cites as its creator, is almost certainly a faked-up name to continue the conversation; likewise for accounts of its creators methods and goals.)
