That itself is also political, but not in the way these kinds of outlets understand or want to admit it is. Post-Feudal Rich people have very self-broken brains that require the very specific environment of capital accumulation to function in a remotely coherent state, at the detriment of others.

I always wondered what the retention trade-off is. If Meta is just upping the pain control, wouldn't people just not want to log back on? There has to be a point where even the normie boomer finds 20 ads per post annoying and reduces going onto FB to only when needed.

The Twitter exodus would suggest otherwise. Someone just needs to make a less toxic alternative. It won't be quite as easy, because Zuck isn't as dumb as Musk, who fired all the people who knew how to make a Twitter clone en masse.

i think twitter was successful for much more specific and fragile reasons than the vague blob of products facebook became; it had a fraction of its userbase and never trapped all the older generations or became essential to companies in the same way. Not sure they can really be compared.

That’s a fair point. I’m still on Facebook because it’s easy to chat with my mom that way, and I doubt she’s ever switching to a new site.

It bothers me that underneath it all, there is a good social network and a solid product, but that it wasn't enough for them, and they had to go tabloid.
It could be salvaged.

Also worth noting that most of the moderation I see on Facebook is from the moderators who run groups.

I don't understand - maybe he's just red pilled - but why get rid of moderation, even if it doesn't work as it should, but why not saying you're going to shove loads of AI towards it? They already lie about everything thing else and still need to keep the AI $ train running?
