In addition to steam curators often being a scam for free game keys, they frankly don't do anything for your game even when they're real. I just ignore the whole thing these days.

I feel bad for people trying to engage with the curator system as intended, because I know there are a few out there who are - but the whole system seems to be completely flooded with scammers now

I think it's interesting that curator reviews are hidden behind a click-to-reveal on steam pages these days. Not a great solution, but... telling.

I've tried to engage with the Curator system, linking my reviews there, and from the other side it's also a complete mess. The UI is wildly inconsistent, your reviews are obfuscated in the Store, your followers don't get any news about what you're doing... I don't think Valve is taking care of it.

I think it was always this way. Only the curators followed by you are displayed by default, others are behind "View all".
For me, it's just a short section with extra few sentences from people i opted in to see there.

The only couple of curators that I see having an impact are folks who use other channels as well to reach an audience, and just use their Steam curator list as a system of record.

I've only ever used it to follow "Epic Games Sucks" and "Denuvo Games" which lets me know which games were EGS exclusives, forces EGS integration, or has/had Denuvo so I can avoid them.

When I first set one up, I figured "well I'm a nobody, but maybe people will see games we have in common & take a chance on other stuff I recommended." It didn't occur to me for years that people were actively requesting keys.

The thing that put me off was the sea of low-effort meme accounts.

Steam should introduce backlog keys so I can at least save money on the stuff I’ll never play.
