sorry, that's kind of mean. i should be more compassionate to cis women who experience this. it's just frustrating bc when this shit happens to trans women, it never makes the news; in those moments, the system is functioning the way it's designed to
and i can't help but notice that ppl's takeaway is always "this anti trans woman stuff hurts everyone!" and not "holy shit this is what trans women's lives are like? i didnt realize it was this bad"
Most cis people think if there was a perfect way to separate trans women and cis women in public life that would be preferable to lumping us all together. Which fantastically misses the point.
I'm just a cis numpty, but my hot take is we should be able to make room for both reactions in our shriveled cis hearts. Like "holy shit, my trans siblings are suffering horribly, we have to stop this awful stuff happening to them" is perfectly compatible with "this bullshit is hurting all of us".
Its because it centers cis feelings first, like our suffering cant be on anyones minds until it happens to cis women too. You're right, it affects everyone, but the empathy is reserved for cis women. Like abortion. Trans men exist and its treated like a cis women only issue.

Like maybe it's self interest to only now realise what's happening is bad after you realised it could happen to you...
They're coming for the trannies and the immigrants. We just need our third and fourth victims and then the problem will solve itself!
...right?
and if we can draw the line at public harassment and employment discrimination, then we can exist in public more easily, it's a baby step I know...
