I make pottery - that much is obvious. But, even more importantly, as an artist I make symbols and ideas. When I started this work it was a project in autonomy, self-sufficiency, and sustainability in the face of a terminally capitalistic world.

Lately it's come to mean a lot more. I'm making more of an effort to eliminate things from my life that come from corporate/fascist environments, and that means many (most?) of my conventional ceramic materials.

I've found it hard these past few weeks to verbalize my feelings about watching democracy crumbling in the USA, and about Canada's sovereignty being threatened by a formerly good neighbour. Ultimately, pottery is not important, but symbols are, no matter how small or mundane they appear at first.
