Taking away Final 4 firemaking in Survivor would be awesome, but is only solving half the problem. We need to bring back votes at the F4 AND the F3. 3 people in FTC is obviously the norm now but it remains a huge problem. There is not an argument with any legs at all in defense of F4 fire. Not one. But, a common defense of F4 fire is that it’s too easy for everyone to pile on whoever the “biggest threat” at F4 is and vote them out. The solution (F4 fire) is incorrect, but the assessment (pile-ons) is correct.

To be clear, the pile-ons happen even with F4 fire, it just happens at F5. You know when that wouldn’t happen, though? If only 2 people faced the jury. Because in the event of an obvious threat being there at F4, at least one person is incentivized to keep them if there’s another vote after.

Because even if everyone thinks they’re going to lose to Person A in FTC, someone ELSE becomes the biggest target once they go. At least one person should feel that they significantly boost their odds of making FTC by *keeping* Person A as a shield. It’s WAY less of a straightforward choice.

If you just can vote out, say, David Wright at F4 and then you’re in FTC then that’s a slam dunk. Not much drama there. Occasionally, the David W’s will be able to convince someone to force a tie, but when there are 3 people making the decision, most of the time they’re not going to f up.

Again, this all roughly happens at F5 every season now in the current format. One more round of pure voting (F4) is a plus and I’d take it, but if we take away F4 firemaking and keep the F3, the problem remains. Adding voting at F3 OPENS UP the game even more, which is only good for everyone

Fans, producers, players, EVERYONE, should want the game opened up, giving the players more room to play, the decisions becoming more layered and complex the closer you get to the end instead of more straightforward. It gives players’ games more room to speak for themselves.
