Fine. Fine... we will bring that in too. And it will always be like this. I am a naturalised citizen and lemmie tell you, there are have been multiple times in my time living in the UK when I have been told, "But you will never truly be British."

It is partly because of the USA I think and their quest to track down any US citizen who is resident outside of the country (I worked on FATCA legislation in one of my old jobs)
Add that to the need to show ALL of the paperwork (proving I am British by paperwork, American by random act of birth) for various things I need to do as an adult human and I laugh. I have a complicated relationship with this island.
I see a lot of potential in the UK. But it's a provincial place. (I grew up in a small town in an isolated area. Same vibes.) It is a bit like living with a man who reminds you often that they once won the big game & used to drive a Porsche but they are now broke & say it's someone else's fault.
And I get that so many people are held hostage by the weird AF mindset of the people in power. And what is fed to folk is so damn crazy. Myths are big here. Myths and stupid paperwork.
Thank you for letting me have a good moan. Will defeat the paperwork labyrinth once again. I am good at it. I have defeated the Home Office, presently taking on the NHS, and who knows who else I will wear down with my spirit. (I did terrify my Tory MP so they don't reply anymore.)
