I used to love the older assassins creed games for being able to explore far away cities. As a kid that didn’t travel a lot, it was especially cool. Cities in the original game did great jobs of portraying the theme they wanted them to, but Florence from AC2 definitely stands out as my favorite

First time caller, long time listener. I'm sure someone will cover this but the dark, dirty, dank & messy streets of Revachol in Disco Elysium feel lived in, but I want to explore more and see more. Also, strong shout out to the New Londo flesh carpets, I imagine it has a very pungent smell

Prague in Mankind Divided is not only my favorite real place in video games it’s my favorite city in any video game. By the end of the game I was able to navigate quests without using a map following the in world directions characters gave. In my mind that’s the best you can hope for.

One of my favorite renditions definitely has to be the Architecture from Lost Izalith in Dark Souls being a real Buddhist temple located in Cambodi called Angkor Wat, since that whole area in the game was pretty lacking, it was nice to see Izalith on a virtual tour and see the inspiration there.

Extremely biased since I'm a native but New Vegas was a lot of fun to romp around in while playing Fallout. Liberties are obviously taken but the landmarks are roughly in the right spots.

In Pokemon Black there's a lovely little recreation of City Hall Park in Manhattan tucked out of the way in Castelia City that resonated more with me than any of the more obvious homage landmarks.

I think the ones that stick in my head are Rome in AssCreed (when I visited in person I continually annoyed my wife with "I've climbed that"), and maybe Iceland in Hellblade 2 (recency bias aside, but it was a stunning location).

This is a bit out of left field, but MLB The Show does a great job representing each ballpark. I've used it before to scope out tickets. The Negro Leagues features in 23 & 24 were extensively researched from contemporary accounts.

As a tourist all the way from Aotearoa, when I was in New York I could find my way around Manhattan without a map thanks to a combination of the Spiderman games and the Lego Avengers games.

Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed on the PS3, while being a fairly mid beat-em-up, provides an impressive snapshot of Akihabara at a particular point in the 2000s, with fliers for lots of real world shops and cafes (some of which no longer exist).
