Anyone contacted Gates Foundation yet? They're probably the group that could move the fastest and have the most interest.

I didn't see a mention of it in the Science article but I don't know the team directly involved. I can dig up a program officer name, but others may also have better contacts.

Also, this is going to sound insensitive but why the heck do we fund these databases with NIH contracts and grants-based funding. We know those have an end date.

This happened with Ecocyc too, just after I left grad school. They ended up shifting to a paid model.
