It’s proof that propaganda works. It began after bipartisan fairness doctrine legislation was vetoed by Reagan. “Welfare Queens” and anti-union rhetoric were early propaganda efforts. Of course, the rise of Fox Noise was central to convincing Americans to vote against their economic self-interest.
They just added special dispensation for being shitty to trans people specifically AND allowed calling women “household objects” while removing all fact checking and giving Trump millions.
You can repeat lies enough times that people across political spectrums start to believe it. But you can’t turn those lies into truth. Regardless, I very much enjoyed watching Jim Jordan and Jim Comer try and fail to do so the last 4 years 😂
Probably because in times of tragedy a lot of people retreat into things they find comforting which can include looking for people who are easy to blame
I left social media in 2016. I came back to help to get rid of Xs dominance. The anger from those who are allies has turned to outright hatred. I can tell you, I struggle each day to stay on to add my voice to the chorus of good people. I feel like a punching bag for someone's anger.
A lot of liberal people need to do some reflecting. So many people hopped on here and just wanted to keep it a similar hellhole with “look at how awful this thing is” posts.
Every social media platform outside of Vero is way too full of these types of posters.
I have so many things muted on Facebook...and, I'm kinda glad I'm one of those shy introvert, who doesn't have a lot of friends lol...And, I'm in Alberta, good times to be had 🙄
If they don’t realize that 100mph winds and a dry winter was the cause they’re stupid. The fact is we were warned about this before it even happened we just didn’t know how bad it’d be.
Absolutely.
Look for accounts that ignore nuance and maximize division, false axiomatic opposition and calls to hate groups who- like us- oppose fascism, but have divergent ideas about policy and praxis.
They laser focus hate for specific people. Bernie, Hillary, AOC etc
That’s the common thread.
Podcasting, not the Joseph Rohgahn* one but several others in the top 20, are designed to make smart people feel good about aligning with people they distrust on team red.
People of a wide variety of intelligences are susceptible to manipulation, regardless of how intelligent they perceive themselves or they actually are.
There’s a certain level of philosophical sophistication/worldliness that makes one much less susceptible to this sort of nonsense. I don’t see broadly well read people falling for this bullshit. Narrowly educated smart people (engineers with no humanities or history knowledge) fall for it though…
True. Which is why I consider the goal of content I interact with.
Does that goal align with a growing left that is organized and handles conflict with consideration and thoughtfulness or is the message at its core divisive in a way that is detrimental to organization and understanding.
Dude had Jesse Waters on TV last night and I could hear bits of that vitriol.
I enjoy debating issues, can disagree and still eat dinner together, but what I heard was absolutely atrocious. An accomplished man with a PhD was parroting it like a happy toddler who learned a swear word.
I submit the “radicalization” — division, polarization, hate — of us as a people (who have a great deal of common ground) is due to the we-rule, you’re-irrelevant corruption of our democratic institutions by a two-party system the founders warned us against. Lies. Demonization. All for power.
Yes, the media and social media reflect that courtroom-style, we-win, you-lose party methodology, but the core problem is in the two-party system of acquiring a numerical majority.
No, the founders did NOT belong to/support parties IN CONTROL of govt functions and power. They broke down largely into two political philosophies, yes. But they were against party control of power.👇
Doing so, we’ve converted what was intended to be ATOMIZED power into that courtroom setting.
I think that’s an oversimplification. As you get radicalized, the window of people you extend your empathy to gets smaller and smaller, until it starts to erode direct relationships. At which point it extends only to the people who kept radicalizing you.

Why are you still on there?
I think we can be done with meta.

He's extremely smart and accomplished but rapidly descending the talk radio and fox news radicalization pipeline. It's scary to watch

Unity and earnest empathy
Impossible to fake, bait, or troll.
I can't imagine what algorithm delivered content would do to his world view.
Some parts of the Fox News shows also do this.

We must fix this nightmare in order to heal our wounds.
