This eases my mind a little bit, but I still worry about the ability of that “front 4” to run in behind, ghost into spaces behind defenders.

Expanding upon this with some other phases. Essentially a four-box-two. It's less of "Merino as a striker" than "Merino and Ø as floating 10s," with Trossard and Nwaneri pinching in centrally during advanced phases to get them max shooting opportunities. I think FBs should mostly stay wide.
