Medicaid covers 1.4 million Kentuckians. @jbaileyky.bsky.social of @kypolicy.bsky.social noted the memo didn't specifically exclude Medicaid from the freeze, as it's a grant to state govt that they match & then goes through to pay providers. "That's not a direct benefit to an individual, like (SS)"
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked several times by reporters Tuesday if Medicaid was excluded from the freeze, answering that she was unsure and would get back to them on their questions.
Our insistence that they must be following the minute crumbs of the legal walls they just steamrolled will only lead to those crumbs being ground to dust.
Beshear squeaked by an historically unpopular incumbent (<5K votes) in 2019, then handled Covid well enough to remain popular and beat an incompetent challenger in 2023. But all other statewide races went red by big margins the same years.
