Nintendo has never been consumer friendly on pricing. They are worried about lower profit margins and deciding if they raise it up further. Or more perhaps more likely, they want to use this an excuse to raise it regardless.

I agree they're not consumer friendly when it comes to pricing. But the logistics are the logistics, the amount of cost to import all those consoles, a 40% increase should cause an alarm for the company. I would tend to believe they don't want another wii u fiasco and are looking at options.
That's certainly true. So say they raise the price to $499.99 or less realistically $479.99. If the Orange Moron is forced to undo his tariff tantrum 3-4 weeks from now (a not unlikely event), would they reduce the pricing to the original $449.99 in response? I can't imagine that scenario.
I think they definitely pausing to see if Trump does retreat. If they bump the price too soon and he does retreat, it will definitely backfire on them.
