There have been 100s of Extinction Rebellion & Just Stop Oil protests around the country over last 4+ yrs. Despite the many newspaper claims, scores of FoI requests have failed to uncover a single single ambulance service that logged serious delays to its ambulances during any of the protests.

My theory: only a small number will pay the tax, but a consequence is that it will make buying agricultural land a lot less attractive as a tax-avoidance loophole, which (others have realised) will hit the market "value" of agricultural land.

Yup. Too many farmers (and their families) are working for less than minimum wage and won’t be able to cope with the extra tax — so land will be sold, most likely to investors not farmers. And selling land is like a carpenter selling his tools — it reduces capacity for earning even further.

I do disagree with the pervasive all farms will fail trope. Careful and timely financial planning will eradicate any need for families to worry about IHT. Farms will not be sold to pay for it.

the IHT changes will only apply to farms valued at over £1 million, and only to the part exceeding £1 million. I earn six figures and I'm pretty certain I will never be able to afford to buy a million pound farm in my lifetime. please do tell me in what sense do you imagine them not wealthy?

Peaceful protest usually doesn't get any backlash, but some climate activists got 4-5yrs in jail for *planning* a demonstration over a *Zoom call*. It's about Big Oil, not big farmers. Maybe I should have made this point to begin with, I'm not blaming farmers or wishing any of them end up in jail.
