The article was really interesting but I was left wondering what role the parents played? I mean, the guy had a Hitler alter in his room ffs… they seemed to be ok with all of this? Can’t they be held accountable, as he was still living at home?

The parents received signs before that he was radicalizing, but maybe they let him loose too much (this is an assumption). Defenitely know none of the parents approved. Could be 'Danny' was very clever in deceiving and living a double life.

We did actually make some recommendations for this piece intended to advise the Dutch police. We allege society as a whole should be more vigilant: youth coaches, deans, teachers, soccer coaches, not just the parents.

16 yo "Danny" got raided while camping in his backyard and was apprehended a mere few hours after he made his final post in "The Basis" Telegram group. This exact post is still visible in the public channel and it seems they even extended the channel with a chapter from Belgium.

Kraak tells abt the history of The Base and that they are a designated terrorist group by the EU. That decision was made easier because The Netherlands—as EU member—put them on their national terrorist organisation list a few months earlier, in january 2024.

I'll always wonder how a 16yo is able to show (or hide) so much nazi paraphenelia in his bedroom. There were also multiple neonazi flags on full display.

The message [from The Base] also seems to reach 'Danny'. A few weeks later, in april, images of him pop up in the The Base Telegramgroup, which has >500 members. He puts up a tag of The Base in a bikers tunnel. This is allegedly his first step/action in the terrorgroup.

2 lawyers state that their clients showed insight & started a path of deradicalisation. Fortunately NL youth justice system is not focused on retribution but rehabilition. CTE hopes all suspects—who all turned out to be vunerable— in this story get the help & guidance they need.

I hope they do as well, it would be awesome to get them back as productive members of society.

As for the rest and other groups, we need to strengthen ourselves against their coming attacks. They will hit us and we need to be able to hit back.
