The way a more gamer-y friend of mine explained it to me was something along the lines of the Monster Hunter Guild specifically exists to regulate the ecosystem, in older games there were penalties for unapproved hunts that were laxed in newer ones. I think in the Lore there's even Guild Knights or something that hunt down poachers (though I have no idea how canon that is), and technically even when we hunt 53 of the same monster to get a Plate, they're all individual threats to the ecosystem

Yep! Guild Knights are the only people in-universe authorized to raise their weapons at and even kill people in response to breaking the rules of the guild. One of the big rules is poaching/doing unauthorized hunts, which is punishable by death. Its only been alluded to once or twice in the games-

-by virtue of how much of a clusterfuck Monster Hunter lore is, especially early on in the series. As far as I'm aware, though, its never been retconned or anything. Another fun fact, Aiden/Excitable A-Lister from world is a junior Guild Knight, he's actually the same guy as the Ace Cadet from 4u!

Basically yeah.You are there to keep the ecosystem in check and to kill any being"usually elder dragons"that pose threat to both the ecosystem and/or humans.Now why do they need to do that?Well in lore there was war between monsters and hunters and to keep planet livable hunters now do this as a job

So I dont think it's really just because of the paperwork she has to do, but more like you are literally disrupting the ecosystem if you just go hunting for fun / potentially killing things that need to not be killed so kind of being the opposite of helpful at your job
