Oh man. you've never heard of it before because it's been out of print for basically that long. Marvel used to publish comics adaptations of big nerd movies—Bill Seinkiewicz did David Lynch's DUNE. The Kirby 2001 is basically the Holy Grail—it spawned a brief ongoing series by Kirby, too.
You can pick up copies on Ebay pretty frequently: $40-$50 is a reasonable price these days. It's worth it: the oversize pages really give Kirby room to work with the widescreen images.
I have that Treasury in the background when I do TV shots over Zoom, and a producer once asked me, "So, is it because you like Kirby or Kubrick?" (The answer is both)
