I really need people to stop acting like technology is gonna solve disability.

I have a pretty technologically advanced wheelchair. It still doesn’t make my back not broken, and it sure as shit doesn’t make ableds build more ramps.

I stopped getting “AI in healthcare” keynotes when I started pointing out that AI won’t improve outcomes because improving outcomes loses money for hospitals and clinics. We don’t bother to count how many people we kill by accident. Counting is older than old:)

Story about dumb. My wife uses a rollator. A favorite Mexican restaurant had a ramp from the parking lot to the door, but... they took it out! They also removed the parking spaces!

Very few people have access to those “miracle” exoskeletons that can help paralyzed people walk. Not everyone even WANTS to walk.

Everyone benefits from ramps, which predate Jesus Christ, and folks act like that’s specialty equipment.

This is beside the point, but anyone working on a robotic system that intends to work alongside humans (e.g. delivery, cleaning, logistics) would be thrilled to have a guarantee that the entire world is wheel-accessible. Wheels are still the most efficient and stable way of getting around!
