Cork & Waterford have almost no P&R to allow drivers swap mode in city. NL with far more cars per capita than Ire allows its drivers use city orbital motorways to access P&R quickly & use rental bike garage in P&R or city train stations so large% of NL city cyclists jump back in their cars in eve.

Yes, we need to prioritise other modes. Alas, they are an afterthought for many of the loud voices who champion simplistic solutions to Galway's mobility problems.

A city with low traffic on its streets is good for cyclers and good for tradespeople. And good for residents.

Ire has just 453 cars per 1000 ppl but 523 in Netherlands. Dutch cities uncontested as every city has 3 lanes Orbital motorway so 50%+ of city cyclists who also own cars can use P&Rs off orbital & leave cars there. That includes commuters from outside & city residents.

Yes, Netherlands much better infrastructure for trains, bikes and other modes of transit. And a consequence is that it's much better to drive in too!

Every dutch city has 3 lane Orbital feeding P&R so majority can easily swap from car to bike as most use both daily. When Gal Orbital 3 P&R blocked for years is finally built then majority here will have same infrastructure as sick of being forced to drive into city on antiquated road network.

We're a long way from the Netherlands, mentality wise. You might be happy to use a car in the country and a bike in the city but many people would not be able to cycle in the city.

We need to prioritise a multimodal network, with park and ride at its heart. Leave the sunk cost fallacy behind us👍
