I got all the DC and Marvel ones I saw. First Issue Special, Marvel Chillers and Black Goliath never made it to the Stars and Stripes bookstore near me. Got the Superman/Spider-Man treasuryvia mail order, with Stan's autograph and a letter telling me Carmine was no longer with DC.

Bought new:

X-MEN, MARVEL PREMIERE, MARVEL CHILLERS, GHOST RIDER, FANTASTIC FOUR, AVENGERS, SUPERMAN VS. SPIDER-MAN and DEFENDERS. I didn't buy BLACK GOLIATH because I didn't like the first issue, but I bought two SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MANs, and carefully saved one in a paper bag.

That must have been fun to have been broiught to your attention. I am pretty sure the first letter of yours I saw is in my favorite issue of the color HULK! magazine (with a Larkin cover) where Banner is captured with a bunch of other people in an underwater city thingy.

Sort of. They had edited my letter down to a single word: "Fantastic!" which suggests I loved the comic.

But the letter had said the cover was fantastic, and critiqued the story within. That goes to show, I suppose, how few letters they got, if needed to use mine.

I remember staring at this rack in awe and wishing I could have all the comics. But I only had the one quarter and ended up going home with the Fantastic Four. It wasn't very long before I had friends that I could trade with so I could read more, leading to a lifetime of comics.

NIIIICCEEE layout!!!! Supes vs. Spidey was the very best. When I saw comic ads for it, I never dreamed I would ever see one. My mom grabbed it in a grocery store while we were driving back on vacation. I read it in the back of our covered pickup and was in heaven.

It was UK in the 70s, so I was lucky to get anything 😀

But I did get the Superman/Spider-Man Treasury 😍 and the Superboy/Legion off the rack.

The only issues of those that I got new was the Superman vs Spider-Man tabloid. I got LSH 216 as a back issue a good 5 years after it came out. I can't remember if I ever got First Issue Special 13 (first Return of the New Gods) but I had the first issue of their resumed series when it came out.

I managed to find a copy in a regular newsagents, which nearly melted my face off at the time (mid-70s UK; not great for comic book fiends).

Still have my copy, and I still think it's the best crossover.

Now I'm going to have to re-read it for the Neal Adams touch-ups.
