My main problem with Schumer et al. is that if this is the case, making that case loudly and affirmatively would help. If this is a debate about tactics, fine, I get that. But right now, it feels like a minority of Dems in the Senate are giving up, and that's what's enraging people.

I think the framing has been misguided, somewhat. People think Dems are afraid to take a hit in the jaw (shutdown) for the greater good. I don't think that's actually the calculus of all the "Yes" votes. There are arguments that a shut down could lead us down a faster path to democratic destruction

With this American media, Democratic messaging is like spitting into a hurricane.
Second, make clear your concerns are about Trump abusing a shutdown. Make it clear you see this as a fight.
Third, don't make this into a big fight and make people blame Dems for the shutdown.
