I was in college when the USSR collapsed and everyone rushed to Soviet Studies courses in its wake. I’ll never forget the Party/State double bureaucracies with their snitch lines and fiefdoms and true believers. I honestly didn’t expect the US to reproduce them in the name of “government efficiency”
